Product Overview
Nitric Acid (HNO₃, 55-68% concentration) is a fundamental industrial chemical used in ammonium nitrate production, metal surface treatment, explosives manufacturing, and as a laboratory reagent. As the essential upstream input for all nitrate-based fertilizers, nitric acid demand tracks directly with global agricultural nitrogen consumption. Dongkwang Poland supplies technical-grade (55-60%) and concentrated (68%) nitric acid from European production facilities, ensuring consistent supply for industrial customers across the continent.
How Nitric Acid Technical Grade Works
Nitric acid is a strong oxidising mineral acid that dissociates completely in water into H⁺ and NO₃⁻ ions. In metal treatment, it dissolves base metal oxides (passivation of stainless steel) and provides bright finishes (pickling). In fertilizer manufacturing, reaction with ammonia produces ammonium nitrate. In explosives, nitration of organic compounds (toluene, glycerine, cellulose) produces TNT, nitroglycerin, and nitrocellulose.
Key Benefits
Application Guide
Fertilizer production: reacted with NH₃ at controlled temperatures to produce AN. Metal treatment: diluted to 10-30% for pickling and passivation baths. Laboratory: used as analytical reagent at specified concentrations. Water treatment: pH adjustment in specific industrial processes. Always add acid to water (never reverse). Use corrosion-resistant (316L stainless steel or HDPE) equipment.
Ideal For
Storage & Handling
Store in HDPE, 316L stainless steel, or aluminium containers. Nitric acid is highly corrosive (GHS Category 1A) and a strong oxidiser. Segregate from organic materials, reducing agents, bases, and metals. Store in ventilated, bunded areas. Full PPE mandatory: acid-resistant suit, face shield, nitrile gloves. ADR Class 8 + Class 5.1 for transport. Emergency shower and eye wash stations required.
