Product Overview
Anhydrous Ammonia (NH₃, 82% N) is the most concentrated nitrogen fertilizer available, delivering more nitrogen per kilogram than any other source. Used both as a direct-application fertilizer and as the primary feedstock for manufacturing urea, AN, and UAN solutions, anhydrous ammonia is the foundational molecule of the global nitrogen fertilizer industry. Dongkwang Poland facilitates supply of anhydrous ammonia from European and Middle Eastern production facilities, providing competitive pricing amid volatile global ammonia markets driven by natural gas costs and geopolitical disruptions.
How Anhydrous Ammonia (NH₃) Works
When injected into moist soil, gaseous NH₃ reacts with soil water to form ammonium (NH₄⁺), which is held on cation exchange sites. Over 2-6 weeks, soil bacteria convert ammonium to nitrate (NO₃⁻) through nitrification. The initial alkaline reaction zone (pH >9) around the injection point creates a temporary antimicrobial zone that suppresses nitrification, providing a natural slow-release effect. This chemistry makes anhydrous ammonia one of the most efficient N sources when properly injected at 15-20cm depth.
Key Benefits
Application Guide
Direct injection at 15-20cm soil depth using specialized anhydrous applicators with knife or coulter openers. Application rates: 100-200 kg NH₃/ha (82-164 kg N/ha) depending on crop and yield target. Apply in autumn (pre-freeze) or spring (pre-plant). Soil moisture should be sufficient to seal injection slots. Minimum 10cm spacing between injection points. Use nitrification inhibitors for autumn application to prevent N losses.
Ideal For
Storage & Handling
Anhydrous ammonia is a hazardous material requiring pressurised storage vessels (nurse tanks) rated for 250+ psi. Toxic by inhalation — maintain emergency PPE including full-face respirator with ammonia cartridges. Store outdoors in well-ventilated areas away from occupied buildings. Comply with EU COMAH/Seveso III regulations for large-quantity storage. ADR Class 2.3 (toxic gas) for transport. Emergency shower and eye wash stations mandatory.
