Product Overview
Sulphate of Potash (SOP, K₂SO₄) is a premium chloride-free potassium fertilizer containing 50-52% K₂O and 17-18% sulphur, making it the gold standard for chloride-sensitive high-value crops. With global SOP supply increasingly constrained by geopolitical disruptions to Belarusian and Russian exports, Dongkwang Poland offers reliable European-sourced supply chains backed by long-term off-take agreements with primary producers. SOP delivers two essential nutrients — potassium and sulphur — in a single application, improving crop quality parameters including sugar content, colour intensity, and post-harvest shelf life across fruits, vegetables, tobacco, and specialty crops.
How Sulphate of Potash (SOP) Works
SOP dissociates in soil solution into K⁺ and SO₄²⁻ ions. The potassium ion is adsorbed by soil cation exchange sites and taken up by roots through selective K⁺ channels, activating over 80 enzymes involved in photosynthesis, starch synthesis, and protein metabolism. The sulphate anion supplies plant-available sulphur essential for methionine and cysteine synthesis — amino acids critical for protein quality in oilseeds and cereals. Unlike MOP (KCl), SOP contributes zero chloride, preventing osmotic stress and quality degradation in sensitive crops.
Key Benefits
Application Guide
Apply 200-400 kg/ha as basal dressing for field crops. For tomatoes: 300 kg/ha split at transplanting and fruit set. For grapes: 250 kg/ha at budbreak and veraison. For potatoes: 350 kg/ha incorporated before planting. For tobacco: 200-300 kg/ha banded at transplanting. SOP is fully water-soluble and compatible with fertigation systems at 5-10 kg per 1,000L irrigation water. Soil pH adjustment is rarely needed as SOP has a near-neutral salt index.
Ideal For
Storage & Handling
Store in a dry, covered warehouse on pallets. SOP is mildly hygroscopic — reseal opened bags promptly. Maximum stack height: 3 pallets. Shelf life: 24 months in original packaging. Non-hazardous for transport (not ADR classified). Use standard PPE (gloves, dust mask) during handling. Keep away from strongly acidic materials.
