Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN 27%) is Europe’s most widely used straight nitrogen fertilizer, containing 27% nitrogen in a balanced ammonium-nitrate blend stabilised with ground dolomite or limestone (providing 7-8% CaO and 4-5% MgO). Unlike pure ammonium nitrate, CAN 27 is classified as non-detonable and non-hazardous for transport, making it the preferred high-nitrogen source under EU ADR regulations. How Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN 27%) Works
CAN 27 provides nitrogen in two forms: ammonium-N (13.5%) for sustained release via nitrification, and nitrate-N (13.5%) for immediate plant uptake. The calcium carbonate/dolomite filler neutralises soil acidity that would otherwise result from ammonium nitrification, maintaining soil pH stability. The dual-N delivery profile ensures rapid green-up within 5-7 days while maintaining nitrogen supply for 3-4 weeks, reducing the need for multiple applications.

Application Guide
For cereals: 300-450 kg/ha split between GS21 (tillering) and GS31 (stem extension). For maize: 300-400 kg/ha side-dressed at V6. For grassland: 250-350 kg/ha after each grazing/cutting rotation, 3-5 applications per season. For vegetables: 200-350 kg/ha as top-dress during active growth. For fruit trees: 200-300 kg/ha annually in early spring. Spread with standard centrifugal equipment.

Storage & Handling
Store in dry, covered conditions on pallets. CAN 27 is non-hazardous for transport and storage (unlike AN 34%). Maximum stack height: 3 pallets. Shelf life: 24 months. Low hygroscopicity ensures minimal caking. Keep away from organic materials, fuels, and acids. Standard agricultural PPE recommended.
