Product Overview
Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP, Na₅P₃O₁₀) is a high-volume industrial phosphate used primarily in detergent manufacturing as a builder/water softener, in ceramics as a deflocculant, and in food processing as a moisture retention agent (E451). Global STPP trade exceeds 4 million tonnes annually, making it one of the most commercially significant phosphate derivatives. Dongkwang Poland supplies technical and food-grade STPP from established producers, serving the European detergent, ceramics, and food processing industries.
How Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) Works
STPP sequesters calcium and magnesium ions in hard water through chelation, preventing them from interfering with surfactant action in detergents. This ‘building’ function is the foundation of modern powder and tablet detergent formulations. In ceramics, STPP deflocculates clay slurries, reducing water requirements and improving casting properties. In food, it binds water in seafood and meat products, improving yield and texture.
Key Benefits
Application Guide
Detergents: 15-40% by weight in powder detergent formulations. Ceramics: 0.1-0.5% of dry clay weight as deflocculant in slip casting. Food: 0.1-0.5% in seafood glazing and meat processing per EU E451 regulations. Water treatment: dosed for scale prevention in cooling systems. Always dissolve in water before addition to formulations.
Ideal For
Storage & Handling
Store in dry conditions — STPP is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture and cake. Keep in sealed containers. Non-hazardous for transport and storage. Shelf life: 24 months in sealed packaging. Standard PPE for bulk handling. Avoid inhalation of dust.
