Product Overview
Azospirillum Biofertilizer is an associative nitrogen-fixing inoculant containing Azospirillum brasilense — the most commercially successful PGPR for grass family (Poaceae) crops worldwide. With over 30 years of commercial use in Brazil, Argentina, and India, Azospirillum has proven yield benefits of 5-15% across maize, wheat, rice, sugarcane, and pasture grasses. Beyond nitrogen fixation (15-25 kg N/ha/year), Azospirillum’s primary benefit is root growth promotion through auxin (IAA) production, increasing root surface area by 30-50% and dramatically improving water and nutrient uptake.
How Azospirillum Biofertilizer Works
Azospirillum brasilense colonizes the root surface and intercellular spaces of grass-family crops in an associative (non-nodulating) symbiosis. The bacteria produce large quantities of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) — the primary plant auxin — which stimulates root hair proliferation, lateral root branching, and root elongation. This expanded root system accesses more soil volume for water and nutrients. Simultaneously, the bacteria fix atmospheric N₂, though the growth hormone effect typically contributes more to yield than the nitrogen fixation itself.
Key Benefits
Application Guide
Seed inoculation: apply 100-200 mL liquid inoculant per hectare of seed immediately before planting. In-furrow application: apply 200-500 mL/ha in planting furrow. Foliar spray: not recommended (Azospirillum is a root colonizer). For sugarcane: apply 300 mL/ha to sett cuttings or in-furrow at planting. Best results with early application to maximize root colonization during establishment. Compatible with most herbicides when applied separately.
Ideal For
Storage & Handling
Store refrigerated (4-10°C) for maximum shelf life. Acceptable at ambient temperature (<25°C) for up to 3 months. Shake liquid formulations before use. Apply to seeds in shade — avoid UV exposure. Use within 24 hours of seed treatment. Do not mix with concentrated fungicides or acidic solutions.
